  • omnireader - Murder, megalomania, motorcycles and an old flame

It is always a red-letter day when the newest Longmire novel lands at my house. I have said it before but I never thought that a series featuring a Wyoming sheriff might become a must-read. An Obvious Fact does not disappoint. Walt and Henry Standing Bear are supposedly on vacation in the small town of Hulett, Wyoming, just across the state line from Sturgis,South Dakota, home of the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Henry is going to participate in the hill climb, but Walt is looking into an accident in which a young cyclist was severely injured. Walt never really takes a vacation after all. Both Walt and Henry are unaware that the injured young man is the son of the legendary Lola, after whom Henry's classic Thunderbird, and Walt's granddaughter, is named.Henry, however, seems strangely reluctant to get involved with Lola in any way.

  • Gary T. - Still great

I have been using the H&R Block and its predecessor for many years. My taxes are pretty simple now, and could do on paper, by why? The s/w lets me import the previous year's data as a starting point, so I can have our basic data (address, filers,...) already filled in, which you can edit of course. I always purchase the Deluxe + State version as it includes federal, 1 state, and multiple federal e-files. It is great to e-file, as you can get a refund in a couple weeks or less. The s/w checks for missing data and values that seem out of whack. You can use the interview method, which ask questions to get the necessary data, which is what I use, or you can directly access the forms. The interview method is great as it fills in all the necessary forms for you. For those with small businesses, or rental properties, there is another version available.

  • Shelly - Another Outstanding Collection of Contemporary Short Stories

This is yet another in the excellent annual series of short story compilations. Each volume contains 20 outstanding stories by contemporary North American writers, with a helpful brief introduction by the editor and a short biography and statement by each author. The stories are selected from those published in the prior year's literary journals such as The New Yorker, The Atlantic and the Kenyon Review. Each volume is edited by a continuing series editor as well as a different well-known author each year. Both the "Best American" series and the "O. Henry Prize" short story collection series, which operates on a similar basis, are outstanding and well worth reading and re-reading. (And every now and then the editors of each collection happen to select the same story for publication.).
